We have exposed the appalling living conditions of German male chicks in Poland. Within a very short time following the ban on the culling of chicks in Germany, a complex system of industrial factory farming has emerged, spanning various European countries: the rearing of male chicks.
Instead of killing male chicks once they hatch, millions are now fattened up for their meat and slaughtered in Poland, despite the availability of alternatives that would prevent this. These animals live in horrific conditions, are transported over long distances and lead short, miserable lives for just 2.5 months before they are slaughtered. As there is no demand for their meat in Europe, it is often exported to African and Asian countries. Our investigation exposes the cruelties of male chick rearing and calls for urgent change in the animal industry.
